. . . Cruising aboard..."Skips Trips" !
The oystering demonstration is the first part of the overall 2 hour Nature
Tour aboard Skips Trips.
Captain Skip narrates, explains
and points out the fine details along the way. You'll learn a little
history about the area. The actual oystering is done in Longs Bayou.
This is the same bayou that Dr. Phillips visits on his Discovering
Alabama video series #1, Coastal Alabama.
Captain
Skip will position the boat over the oyster reef
and demonstrate oyster tonging. He will continue tonging
until he pulls up some live oysters. This is a nature tour, so
we return the oysters to their habitat. Skip tells all about the
methods for opening oysters.
You'll learn more about oysters than you ever wanted to know!
Sometimes
we are seeing dolphin already in Longs Bayou. This is one of many
areas they use to do their calving. Usually great blue herons, green herons, royal
terns, snowy egrets and sometimes the occasional osprey are seen along
the way.

This is a picture of a 4' rattlesnake taken by one of my guests while on the 2 hour nature tour in Longs Bayou May 2008. Picture by Roandl Brown. We
offer these trips starting as early as 8:00 AM. A sunset trip is
also available on demand. Call ahead for current departure times.
