Sailing trips aboard Windy Ways

If you think you might enjoy a 2 or 3 hour sailing adventure aboard a 48' ketch, ( the same boat Skip lived on for 10 years during his travels) you'll want to check this out. He only takes out 6 people at one time, so there is always plenty of room . All sails are in the back

Nature Tours aboard Skips Trips : shrimping, oystering crabbing, dolphin watching....narrated.

bareboat charters

Explore Longs Bayou and Wolf Bay on this narrated nature tour with Capt. Skip. This is fun for the entire family...all ages. You'll see and identify: oysters, blue crabs, shrimp, and a variety of fish and birds. You might even see dolphin on this 2 hour trip in protected waters. This is a hands on trip. This is much more than just another dolphin cruise. It's a fun, informative, learning experience! Groups up to 6 are welcomed. Rates: 2 hour cruise $250. 6 passengers or less. 1 hour Shrimping only cruise $150. 6 passengers or less. Welcome aboard. This cruise was mentioned in Southern Living Magazine March issue, American Airlines Mag. Coastal Living, 717 Mag., Bank and Travel Management, Herald-Palladium, and JourneyPod. I am a State certified Nature Guide.

Dolphin Statement: This web site does not promote feeding, swimming with, or any inappropriate interactions with dolphin. It is Captain Skips hope to show you wildlife in a responsible way. The above picture shows how we go through and identify our by-catch. I edited the picture of the dolphin into that picture to show that we often see dolphin on all my cruises.

Nature Tour Guide statement: As a trusted Nature Tour Guide operator, I am committed to sustainable, responsible viewing of wildlife, including protecting wildlife habitats through education and lawful participation.

*As of July 25th 2008, The Alabama Marine Resources classified my Nature Trips...as fishing trips. They forced me to purchase a Party Boat Fishing license. I do inshore fishing now.

Dedicated Inshore Fishing Trips: 15 years ago I started doing 2 hour inshore fishing trips. We make a shrimp trawl to get some live bait and then head for some fishing holes along the intracoastal canal. 2 hours with up to 6 passengers is $300.00. Add extra fishing hours @ $100. I have fishing poles, license, bait and tackle. I believe in catch and release pictures. Yes, you can keep legal size fish. If you are looking for that special trophy catch, try one of the many dedicated fishing guides on the island. My trips are more family oriented.

3 Hour combo cruise includes 2 hour nature cruise and 1 hour fishing $350.

2023 is my 25th year doing the Nature Tour.

Shrimp Report: May 2023:

The shrimp are here. They come and go with the tides, moon phases, salinity, and storms. When the water temperature reaches about 70 degrees they will grow rapidly to size.

BIRDING: Dedicated 2 hour birding cruise $250. Bring your cameras, binoculars to spot and capture pictures of the may migratory birds that visit and make their home in and around the bays along the Alabama intracoastal waterway.

Dolphin Report: 2023, July.: I have been seeing them in my boat basin near my backyard dock. We usually see dolphin all year long. It's calving season: just saw my first calf this year. Our favorite dolphin, Mr. Friendly, has not shown up since 2019. We estimate his age 50 + years old. We have been seeing his offspring " Junior ". As it is calving season, we have been seeing moms with their calves.

I wish I could say we see dolphin on every trip, however it just doesn't go that way. We don't spend our whole trip tracking down these great creatures....We just hope they'll show themselves along the way. When they do....it's a great show! .

Sea Turtle Report: Sea turtle season begins on May 1. Female turtles visit our beaches to lay eggs from May through August. Eggs begin hatching about 55-75 days later. I was lucky to discover my first turtle nest on May 18th, 2012. This nest hatched in Aug. with 118 babies making it to the Gulf in daylight at about 5:20pm. I discovered my second nest on June 28th 2013. This nest hatched and we helped 118 baby turtles to the water. You can visit www.alabamaseaturtles.com to learn more. As of August ,2017, I had collected over 146 bags of beach trash. Please put all trash in appropriate waste containers.

Due to Covid-19 I no longer put groups together. All cruises are only with your group of 6 or less.
